AC-GOP Chairman's Blog July 2019

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."  Originally written by Captain George Thatcher Balch, a Union Army Officer during the Civil War,and later a teacher of patriotism in New York City schools.

As chairman of the Arapahoe County GOP, here is my Fourth of July, 2019, message to you:

May Independence Day 2019, and everyday, give you - and yours - time to reflect on where we live, on what we have, on what we must preserve, and on how best we can advance our truly unique representative democracy.

There are many and powerful forces working against what we know to be right and just.  They must not be allowed to win.  We cannot - and will not - let them.

Let our differences not divide us, but rather, let our collective understanding about all for which this remarkable country stands unite us in common cause…and let us each of us pledge to participate, in our own way, in upholding the ideals of our remarkable United States of America.

May you and yours have a sparkling Fourth of July…

 Gratefully yours,

Dorothy G.

…And, now for a “commercial”:  How YOU can be involved with the AC-GOP!

Are you frustrated with or tired of the “other” party throwing its agenda in your face, and forcing you and your family to live under untenable rules.  Don’t you want a government that stays out of your Rights, your life, your children’s school, your doctor’s office, your pocketbook, etc., __________? (You fill in the blank)

It is imperative that some semblance of sanity be restored to our county, state, and national representation… and this is no time to be hardnosed.  Do not squander your vote by not voting. If you can’t find someone 100% in line with your views, remember, no person or elected official has ever proven to be perfect (shock).

Let us agree to follow this rule:  We will cast our ballot for those with whom we can agree at least 80% of the time.  Trust this:  In today’s world,  that rule will not compromise us, no matter how strongly held our beliefs, because the people we elect will be a heckuva lot better than the alternative (as we have seen)!

In that spirit, here’s what will be required, over the next year and a half:

·      Needed:  Registered Republicans…so…make sure you are registered to vote - Republican!

·      Needed:  County Party Leaders…

o  Be a District Captain.  Due to our recent AC-GOP By-Laws’ change, District Captains only have 8-12 precincts! This is very doable.  Please check on districts, at:

o  Be a Precinct Leader.  We have openings for neighborhood Precinct Leaders.  Make a difference.  Take a chance.  Get to know your neighbors. It might be fun! …And, get them to vote Republican.

o  Be an area or neighborhood coordinator.

·      Needed:  Election volunteers! (The 2020 election is just around the corner!)

o  Stuff caucus packets.

o  Pick up/deposit ballots.  Pick up/deliver people to the polls.

o  Let the AC-GOP know what’s going on in YOUR community – and whether, and how, to participate.

·      Needed:  People with an interest or specialty skill.

o  What do you like to do?  Work on Tech?  Marketing?  Elections? Events?  Fund raising?  Food prep?

Please let us know how you want to help!

Examples:  State House Rep., State Senate, County Commissioner, City Council, School Board (state/local), REA (South Central Aurora), Fire District.

o  Heck, run for President in 2024…Everyone else will… J

o  In advance of running for office, see and be seen - early on… Attend meetings:   Legislative, City Council, County Commission, Congressional and Congressional Town Hall meetings.  Learn about the “players” and what the issues are.  Serve as an appointed member of a board or commission.

o  Get to know your neighbors and future constituents, and find out what’s important to them.

·      Needed:  Campaign volunteers

o  You may not want to run, but you may want to get involvedin a campaign…

o  Manage or help out on a candidate’s campaign (There’s so much to do…)

o  Work for/against a ballot measure, i.e. an initiative (petition) or referendum (from the Legislature).
