Sheridan Celebrates

  • 4101 South Federal Boulevard Sheridan, CO, 80110 United States (map)

Sheridan Celebrates is an annual community festival regularly held on the fourth Saturday of September.  This year's festival will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2016.

2016 Theme: Sheridan Celebrates the Wild in the West next September

The 2016 Sheridan Celebrates parade and festival will boast the entertaining theme, “Sheridan Celebrates the Wild Wild West.” This year’s event will be held on Saturday, September 24, and this theme will provide opportunities for the wonderfully diverse Sheridan Community to relive the western independence that makes Sheridan what it is today. The theme also reflects the coming together that tamed the west and is experienced each year during Sheridan Celebrates. “The 2016 event will be a good opportunity to remember the characters from the past that made the west wild, such as the infamous Alferd Packer and the flamboyant Molly Brown,” declared Sheridan Celebrates Vice Chair, Eddie Kanoza.

Whether you see yourself as more of a wandering cowboy, or a steadfast ranchman, a Native American princess or a miner’s daughter, the Sheridan Celebrates Committee encourages parade entrants and festival attendees to rally around the 2016 theme, incorporating the Wild West into their costuming and constructions.

NEW Children’s Parade Will Be Part of 2016 Sheridan Celebrates

The Sheridan Celebrates Committee is making improvements to the 2016 parade. At the December meeting, the Committee unanimously approved the addition of a Children’s Parade to take place as a supplement to, and before, the regular parade on Saturday, September 24. Committee members are earnestly aware of how the total distance, and the uphill climbs, in the current parade route make it difficult for our youngest participants to enjoy their involvement. The new Children’s Parade route will be much shorter and the entire route will be as level as possible.

Sheridan children, 10 years and younger, and those from neighboring communities, will be encouraged to dress in costumes that fit the 2016 theme, “Sheridan Celebrates the Wild, Wild West.” Youngsters may walk, ride on self-powered, wheeled transports such as scooters, tricycles and bicycles, and pull wagons with their favorite stuffed animals or other toys. Decorating of wheeled transports and wagons is strongly promoted. All children choosing to participate on a wheeled transport will be required to wear a helmet. No gas-powered entries of any kind will be allowed. Entry into the Children’s Parade is FREE. Participants and their parents will have an easy registration process starting at 8:30 am on the field east of Sheridan High School, 3201 W. Oxford Ave. The Children’s Parade will start at 9 am and proceed east on Oxford past the reviewing stand on the southwest corner of Federal Blvd concluding in the Festival Ground. This will allow plenty of time for entrants to get a good seat and watch the regular parade that starts at 10 am.
