POSITION OF ARAPAHOE COUNTY REPUBLICAN PARTY
ON 2008 GENERAL ELECTION AMENDMENTS AND REFERENDA

YES on Amendment 46 – Prohibition on Discrimination and Preferential Treatment by Colorado Governments
Prohibits the State from discriminating based on race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin.

YES on Amendment 47 – Prohibition on Certain Conditions of Employment
Allows employees to opt-out of union membership and prohibits unions from collecting mandatory dues.

YES on Amendment 49 – Limitation on Public Payroll Deductions
Stops automatic payroll deductions from public employee payrolls.

NO on Amendment 53 – Criminal Liability for Business Entities and Their Executive Officials
Creates criminal liability for executives of business entities (including non-profit businesses).

YES on Amendment 54 – Restrictions on Campaign Contributions from Government Contractors
Known as the “Clean Government Initiative”, reforms government contracting practices by closing the “Pay to Play” loophole.

NO on Amendment 55- Just Cause for Employee Discharge or Suspension
Restricts employers’ ability to fire or suspend employees.

NO on Amendment 56 – Employer Responsibility for Health Care
Requires certain employers to provide health care insurance.

NO on Amendment 57 – Safe Workplace
Grants employees, in addition to Workers Compensation benefits, the right to sue their employer for damages.

NO on Amendment 58 – Severance Tax
Eliminates tax credit for severance tax payers (oil and gas, mineral tax).

NO on Amendment 59 – Education Funding
Eliminates TABOR refunds and increases mandatory taxpayer funding for education spending.

The Arapahoe County Republican Party adopted it’s position by vote of the Executive Committee on September 9, 2008. The Party takes no position regarding Amendments 48, 50, 51, 52 and Referenda L, M, N, and O.
